Ben Lathbury has had more than fifteen years of experience of choral music, including work as a chorister, accompanist, instrumental soloist and conductor. He is currently the Director of Music and Master of the Choristers at Holy Trinity Church, Bosham, where in addition to the regular organising and directing of the choir, he presents concerts to promote the life of the church in the local community, founding the Music in Bosham concert series in 2016. He regularly organises singing days which have attracted large numbers of singers to rehearse and perform works such as Handel’s Messiah. He is, in addition, a professional prize-winning pianist who regularly appears as a concert soloist; he has been recognised as a champion of 20th century American repertoire.

Although originally from the Midlands, his musical training was at the University of Chichester, where he gained a Master of Arts in Music Performance.  After some years in teaching, he moved into freelance music work, founding Harbour Voices, a community choir in Bosham which has over 150 active members. Since 2015 he has been the Musical Director of Havant Light Opera, which puts on five full-length operettas per year.

Ben is looking forward to bringing new ideas to Portsmouth Festival Choir and developing further links with the community.
